G'day fellow nik's
I have a new d3100 which does a good job and I am happy with it indoors, but outside is a different, I cannot see the screen it is too glary and hard to see what has been shot. I did notice on the web there anti glare shields, do they help?? Can I use a shield from Zag and just paste it on? I have a sheet of Zag material can I use that?
Does anybody have any thoughts on this or experience with, I would like to know

Glared out,
Kas

check out the hoodman loupe. Or do like theY did in the olden day - put a dark cloth over your head and camera - which i have done. I looked like _________ but it did the job.

Welcome to the world of electronics. Try viewing your tablet, smart phone, etc. in direct sunlight. There's always a challenge. Polarized sunglasses help a bit, but the aforementioned loupe is very helpful and recommended.

Yeah, it ain't just you and your D3100; it's a problem with LCD screens in general and some LCD screens just handle glare better than others. I can't say I've used any of the anti-glare screen protectors out there, but I do use the ZAGG Invisible Shield, which I'm assuming is what you mean when you say, "Zag material".

Invisible Shield, as you probably already know, is THE BOMB when it comes to screen protection. I don't know that it has any anti-glare qualities to it, however. Then too maybe what you have is different than what I'm using on my GPS unit. ??? Either way, I don't see how you could go wrong with using Invisible Shield, at least for general protection of your LCD. The glare thing, though, is just an issue we have all learned to deal with as best we can. All I can do is suggest you shade your LCD with something and get on with life.

Ah, there is a special little opening above the screen where you can look through the lens to take your picture. This is a main feature of a Digital Single Lens Reflex. When reviewing your images, do not rely on the image alone when outside, make sure you also see the Histogram. Only the histogram can let you know if your pictures are exposed properly when reviewing the shots from the screen. But to take pictures, do not use the screen except when you really have to.

Absolutely right. The viewfinder runs circles around the Live View LCD view. Not only is viewing superior, but the focusing is day and night better.

Live View is only for when you have to (including video).

"screen it is too glary and hard to see what has been shot"
Obviously, our colleague uses a viewfinder for shooting, and he's complaining of not being able to review the picture right after it's been taken (which is a common habit of most of us, I believe) ...:friendly_wink:

The sunshade is what I want!!!!!...it is just perfect. shade and protection, problem!!!! they are all out of stock and no where to be found will have to check back in a few weeks. Normally I use the peep hole which I shall call the view finder, but I do use the LCD to check the image and the histogram, and when the sun is the highest it is hard to see due to the glare. The sunshade will fill the bill. Thanks to everyone that chimed in,
Mission accomplished,

I have one on my D3100. I didn't mention in because in bright sunshine it's worthless. In moderate light it's ok. It does a much better job of protecting your LCD display.
They can be found all over e-bay.
