The D3000 or the D5000. Seems like these two Camera's never had a chance before the upgraded models came out.

I have both.

I use my D5000 every chance I get I truly love this camera and what I have learned to do with it. I do have to admit I have gotten some really good tips from all my Nikonite pals. all the information you have provided is wonderful. This will always be my number one choice until I become more advanced and branch out to greater photography adventures.

I just got my D3000 last year and love it! I had a Minolta SRT-201 from 1978-1992 (or so) that was my favorite camera. After that one stopped working I didn't have the money for another SLR and tried a few point and shoot film and digital cameras along the way and I was just never happy with any of them. I finally decided to spend the extra money for the D3000 and am so happy I did. I love having the option to go fully manual although I admit that most of the time I use aperture priority. I am really trying to learn more about the art of photography itself this time rather than just shooting a lot of pictures with a fancy camera! This website is so helpful and inspiring!

Learning and having fun are synonymous in my book! Enjoy your D3000, and we look forward to seeing some of your work with it. Happy clicking. :)

Glad you're finding the site helpful Darlene!

I have a D5000. I really have no reason to upgrade at this point. I'm slowly collecting lenses though :)

Darlene you made me think about my 32 year old Minolta XG7 that froze up on me last June. Broke my heart when that happened since so many memories were captured with that camera.
I decided to dig it out one last time to see if I could figure out why the shutter would not open or why it would not advance film.

What a shock when I turned it on and pressed the shutter release button and it was free!!!!

Didn't even have a roll of film for it but my wife happened to have a few buried away in a dresser drawer with her old point and shoot 35mm.

The old Minolta was a little sluggish but managed to function through a 24 exposures roll of Kodak 400 film. How strange it is to even use words like Kodak and film in a digital forum. I am not even sure where to take the film to get it developed??

Thanks

This is actually quite a nice shot. Your eyes really stand out in this shot. Well done. And don't worry about wearing a lot of makeup. You're a beautiful woman......you don't need a lot of makeup. :)

It's not about the camera. When people graduate to DSLRs, it's a whole new world. Technology will always move faster than we do. Just know that when you're ready to make the transition to bigger and better things, there are many options and price points available to you. And it's also perfectly okay to be comfortable where you're at.

We still hear the same music today that we listened to years ago on 8 Track players.

Here is a bird shot from today.d3000.I cleaned my lense lightly and got a lot of noise out of the way that way.I am having a field day doing my exposure right becouse I like to use the medium and large photo settings. The weather has been crazy here lately. These crazy little birds won't hold still, they're hard to focus. It all looked so simple and fun on PhotoBlog:)

My Daughter fell in Love with my D3000 so i sent it to her and i stuck with my D5000 until recently when i purchased the D7000 just to keep up with the new stuff. Now the grandson is asking about the D5000 so i am getting ready to pack that one up for the ride to Texas.

Started with a used D80 and then upgraded to a D90, I tried both the D3000 and D5000 but they seem too small in my hands - and i love all the controls without using the menu.

Got a D7000, and Decided to keep my Lil 3000 as a back up just in case.... Im glad I did. I had some friends come into town wanting some maternity photos while my 7000 was back at Nikon having the dreaded back focus issue repaired... I always hate it when I see a specific article calling this little camera the "worst camera nikon ever made" Because its always been great to me, and I was honestly worried about how it would perform... And after months of dealing with the expensive D7000s backfocusing issue, it was so nice to pull out this little baby and take these.....

Nice shots CC...

I'm within 30 days away of getting the D5000...can't wait! I've been reading about the D5000 extensively and one of the most intriguing descriptions I've read yet is "the D5000 is the digital equivalent of a FE2"...the basic plan is to put a 85 or 105 on the F2 permanently and use my 28 and 50 and possibly get a 75-150 E for the D5000.

Please suggest me a good macro and zoom lens for my Nikon D 3000. I have opt for Tamron 18-200mm XR Di II macro but there seems to be problems with its motors. There are so many reviews that I a totally confused. I am on a budget level. thanks.
