D300s Exposure Bracketing?

Okay, I give up.

I want to assign a custom [BKT] function to the former aperture preview button. Did that, no problem. But it's not working. I can hold the button down, which is supposed to allow me to use the control dials to select EV and # of bracketed exposures...but it's not.

I don't get it.

Tony, if it's anything like my D200, you have to go into the main menu first and assign the button to the function you want. It should be the E8 setting.

I did that already. But when I press it, nothing happens. It doesn't go into bracketing mode.

If it's like my D700, you have to hold the reassigned button in while holding the shutter down, and it shoots the bracketed shots.

Okay...got this figured out after a call to the camera store and speaking to the resident Nikon pro who helped me out yesterday. Here's some good info to know:

Yes, according to the menu, you can assign custom functions to the Fn and Aperture Preview buttons. However, this is not the case when it comes to bracketing for whatever reason. By default, the Fn button will activate bracketing mode. I didn't want it that way, however. On my old D90, I had the Fn button set up to open the top item in My Menu, so that's how I set up my D300s. I wanted bracketing mode instead of the Aperture Preview button.

But it doesn't work!

Bracketing mode worked just fine w/ the Fn button. Even the guy at the camera store was like "WTF?" He couldn't get it to work on his unit @ the store either. You simply can't assign bracketing mode to that button, even though it is an option in the menus. At any rate, problem solved. Must be a quirk in the firmware or something.

So how did you solve the problem?

Just re-read this...and it sounds confusing. LOL! Let's put this another way:

Camera defaults:
There are two buttons on the front of the D300s, the Function button (near pinky finger on right hand) and the Aperture Preview button (near ring finger on right hand). By default, the Function button activates bracketing mode when pressed.

What I wanted:

To re-assign bracketing mode to the Aperture Preview button. I use bracketing a lot, and it was more convenient to have it here instead of in the default position. In Menu > Custom > f Controls > Assign preview button/Assign Fn button...you can change how these two buttons on the front of the camera operate. So I changed them.

Bracketing mode is a listed option in the menu for the preview button. However, it did not work...not only on my camera, but on the model at the camera store as well. I can only get bracketing mode to activate when it is assigned to the Function button.
