      I would beware of this lens for insects or other little critter photography. I think that 40mm would just bring me way too close to these for it to perform adequately. I much prefer 105 or even 150mm for macro purposes. OK, you might think that you'll get more DOF with a shorter lens, but you'll have to get so so close that you risk scaring the critter, or, blocking most of the light you desperately need to take the shot.

      Just my 2 cents.
