I sure hope they make that Metro UI optional. I've never liked when companies think they know how I want my computer screen to look. That's one of the biggest reasons I'll never own an iPhone.

That UI looks like their phone, and that's not doing so well. I've already switched my laptop over to Linux, it looks like I may be headed in that direction for my desktop too.

This is the company that made Windows ME, 2000 and Vista and "allowed" their customers to debug their operating systems for the past nine years.

Of course they ONLY have our best interests at heart! :chargrined:

Windows ME was a real problem, however I don't recall 2000 being particularly problematic. Heck, it was extremely stable from day 1. As for Vista, it never bothered me; I still use it with no issues.

As for what I've seen of 8, err, I can't really say I care for it. It will probably make a great tablet OS but some of the changes for desktop users, such as the hot corners (which ruin the multiple monitor experience), the weaker search routines which now need more context when performed on the Start screen, and that Start screen that requires so much more moving around with a mouse than the old Start menu did just seem like very bad UX choices. They seem to be so desperate to stand out now that they don't realize they'll just alienate their main user base.

Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 7 are all great. Vista was ok once you tuned it to suit your needs. Most of the newer ones like Vista and 7 have allowed you to at least change the start menu to the older style. The Windows 8 looks to much liek a Apple desktop. Think I will stat at 7 for the time being.

windows 7 is the best MS OS to date I really can't see 8 bringing anything to the table that would make me want to upgrade

Ya. Vista was a nightmare IMO. It uses 2.5 gigs mem when idling. I have a 64 bit copy of 7 which is my main but I work in a call center for an ISP and know we will get questions on internet for windows 8 soon. Figured I'd be the Guinea pig

No reason for me to upgrade from Windows 7 anytime soon.
Heck, i still use XP on my oldest computer.
We've come a long way from Windows for Workgroups:)

It took me ages to get used to Vista from XP. I just simply dont want to have to learn a whole new system
yet again. No doubt it will be pre-downloaded by the time I buy a new PC.
Im not a PC geek, and I doubt I use much of its abilities as it is lol

You can switch to a normal desktop look if you wanted. It is on the menu area. That ugly metro UI is awful on a desktop and is meant for tablets or phones.
