Updates to LR (5.5) and CS6 / CC

Just got an update from Adobe for Creative Cloud. Lightroom version 5.5 and a new version of Photoshop.

I think it's nice that they've been updating things, but here's a little rant. What I got this morning is now called Photoshop CC 2014. It seems to have supplanted Photoshop CC, but I still have a link to PS CC in the Dock on my Mac...

...and I can pull PS CC up in parallel to PS CC 2014. What the new install doesn't do, and here's my bitch, is connect all the software hooks from things like onOne & Nik/Google...

At least it migrated over my workspace preferences.

Is it that hard to carry over the hooks? Nik's been updated twice since I joined CC, and onOne once. At least give me a list of the various plug-ins and hooks that used to be there but aren't any more.

And btw, I've installed Nik and CC 2014 picks it up fine. onOne Perfect Photo Suite 8? Not so much - it doesn't recognize the PS CC 2014 software as something it should install into. Nice...

Not!!

Thankfully I still have the link to PS CC if I need to use Perfect Effects until they fix it.

Update - onOne upgraded from Perfect Photo 8 to 8.5, and they upgrade was handled internally, so I didn't have the install file. I downloaded the new install file and ran it, and it recognized that it should install to PS CC 2014 ... but ... when I open it I don't see onOne software in the list of Workspace Extensions (which is where I'm used to it) and can now only invoke it from the Edit -> Automate menu.

Arrrrrgh!!!

I watched a video on the upgrade from Julianne Kost and they intentionally didn't replace the previous version of Photoshop. They likened it to a new version (PS CS8?).

Oh, I get that, and I'm fine with it. I just wish they'd do a better job at playing with all the plug-in stuff. I'm a little surprised onOne wasn't ready for this given that they seem to be a rather blessed add-on given their ever growing affiliation with the Kelby folks.

I've noticed some interesting new Blur filters. I'm going to need to find some time to watch the release videos.

Thanks for the info Jake. I am with you on this, I should not have to re-install both. If I do have to then at least show a pop up that states these were installed in the current version and you will need to re-install.

Oh well, all is good and Thanks again.

I read an Adobe FAQ that "CC 2014" is considered a new version, not just an update. The site states that once you know your fresh install of CC 2014 is good to go, you can uninstall previous versions. I'm personally concerned for my NIK Tools install. I'm assuming there won't be any compatibility issues but I haven't yet done anything, really, with CC 2014 other than get it installed.

Jake, have you now confirmed if Nik requires a fresh install?

Absolutely. You need to re-install Nik from the latest download if you want it to work with CC 2014. So far I haven't run into any issues with it.

I just copied my Nik extension folder from the old cc and pasted to the new CC2014 and it seems to work flawlessly.

I have a Windows 7 PC and noticed when I go to Start→All Programs, it lists two Photoshop programs. One is Photoshop CC (64-bit) while the other is Photoshop CC yet when I go through the Control Panel to see what programs are installed, it only lists one Photoshop CC program with an installation date from back in April. The Lightroom program lists today's date as its installation date since I updated both today.

I meant to write the "Google" folder that was in the "Plug-in" folder of the CC program. It was not the extension folder. Sorry.
