NEF file data recovery programs?

Hi! I've had a major hard drive crash on my computer so I'm trying to recover some deleted files off of my memory card of a wedding I shot in the raw files, which on the D7000 is an NEF format. I was wondering if there are any recovery programs that will recover that file? Please help! I need some of those photos back and my new external hard drive failed to back up the important things I needed. I'm so stressed out over this :(
Thanks!
Jenny

You need a file undelete utility (lots available) and probably a card reader so the card comes up like a drive on your PC. I have done it in the past but can't remember which utility. Just do a search on file undelete utility. Do not take any pictures with the card until you have done this or you may lose them forever.

Good luck.

If your still looking, have a look at :

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

Its recovered files when I was testing it that other recovery software didn't even find, never mind try to recover

Its 100% free and is also available as a 'portable' download, so you don't have to install anything as it can also be run from a USB dongle/drive

It will pretty much recover/undelete most filetypes from a corrupt drive, accidental format or delete

You can recover your data from any media by using a good recovery software. There are many software are available on the internet. Download one of them and run a complete scan of your device. This will help you lot.

As a sidenote, both recovery software suggested on here is a FREE DOWNLOAD, which means its trialware. The one I suggested is 100% FREEWARE which means you pay NOTHING to use it and is 100% fully fuctional and WILL very easily andq uickly scan and recover deleted/formatted memeort cards (better than some commercial software as I have tested and proved in the past), its by the same guy that writes CCleaner and all his software is 100% FREE, unless you wish to buy the business editions, but that is your option not a forced option

As you can tell, I'm not a great fan of software that bangs on about its free, but when you download it and try to use it on advice in forums (spam) its actually trial software that does bugger all unless you buy it, or what to recover 1 file at a time or nags and nags you every 3 seconds to buy their marvelous non-functional software

The previous post is EXACTLY what I am talking about, its offering you a link to their software which is a TRIAL version so will do sod all unless you part with your money to get 100% functionality. What is the point of offering a DEMO version that could spend hours scanning your damaged device to just show you some thumbnails that shows what 'might' be recovered then asking you to buy the full version so you then actually recover your data. So wasting more time that you might not be able to afford or stress about losing your data

I love the part that suggests how good their recovery software is when compared to other software, but also refuses to name the recovery software its tested against. Preferring to call them nameless 'products' .... Plenty of reviews I read and software comparisons also name their competitors when testing so what have they to hide. And the hoops to jump through to get a refund is laughable

Yes, I hate spamming software adverts that end up wasting your cash and your time and possible losing even more data instead of actually helping you, and frequently installing 'helpful' adware software in the background

This link is to 100% FREE software, that actually does work, that actually does recover your data without a pointless exercise in time wasting and without flogging their 'trail' software to do sod all about your lost data and your lost hair

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

If you download this version you can put it on a USB drive so you can run it without installing ANY software, which any decent company will tell you is a no-no if you have data loss on a device. The worst thing you can do is try to install software on a damaged device to try and recover data from it. The more you write data to that device the more you risk losing yet more data you possibly cannot afford to lose

Recuva - Builds

It works, I use it. If it didn't work I would delete it straight away. Yes, I do have commercial software I have bought but also use some FREE software that offers a good result for those that need something quick

If you have heard of, or use CCleaner its by the same authors. I've used CCleaner for literally years with no data loss and no issues. And I run CCleaner with full access to my registry and system files

No, I DO NOT have any links to their software I just suggest what I use based on my results and problems from past experience. If a software don't work I don't use it. And will happily say why

Sorry, but based on your misguided rant you are the last person I'd take advice from. Photorescue from Datarescue is great at what it does and has been around for a decade or more. The fact that you haven't heard of it, and have a problem with free trials and paying for software is your problem. As for me, my images are worth a lot more than $29 so I'm more than willing to pay that to recover lost images. And before I pay for any recovery software I'd like to know it can actually find something to recover before paying any money. That's what the free trial is for. Photorescue will show you exactly what it can recover before you give them any money. If nothing is recoverable then don't pay it.

Here's more info for those interested:

It may be a rant, BUT Recuva is FREE, and if somebody is stressed about possibly losing data don't want to sit through hours of a demo/trial to get things back they want it to work straight away so less time to worry

Just because its free doesn't always mean its because it isn't worth offering for a paid service. I have personally tested recuva against commercial software after running after running disk wipe software at a medium level and some commercial software found zero files but recuva found pretty much everything and also told you straight away what was recoverable

And my main rant was the fact that its obviously a plug for their software, why not put a quick reply to a software link explaining what it is instead of an obvious spam for software. I at least explain why I suggest some software not just simply put a link that may or may not lead to yet more soam or adware/malware being installed without a quick explanation why you are suggesting it

Thanks

Unbelievable - just tried Recuva, as my purchased recovery software (Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro) didn't find any NEFs it could recover, but the Recuva free software recovered LOADS, including all of the files I lost when my hard drive went pop. Must be specialised to look for graphics - totally and utterly recommended for SD card recovery of NEFs. Use the search term to specify NEF and just let it run!

Nope... It's not "specialized" in any way, it's all 1's and 0's on your hard drive anyway.

Recuva is just that good.
