I've had very good experience with pretty much everything Asus-branded; motherboards, monitors and power supplies, in particular. That's not to say they don't release an occasional "lemon" but my experience with Asus has been overwhelmingly positive.

I agree that's a beast of a laptop. With 24GB of RAM and 3GB of dedicated video RAM on an nVidia GTX970M, I can't see it doing anything but crushing routine photo editing with power to spare.

If you're going to use it to edit photos, I have to say that th large screen will come in very handy. I use a 13" MacBook Pro for my editing when I travel, and the screen is just a tad too small to fit my preferences. However, with the tradeoff being more weight for a larger screen, I won't complain.

I gotta admit, that I have not really looked at this brand. I came across it by accident, and was surprised. It is heavy, but that performance would definitely out weigh that.

Asus generally are a good market leader and well known in the PC industry for their motherboards, sound cards etc.
Their laptops are great, as you can see from the one you have your eye on.

Keep in mind that this is a gaming laptop and the dedicated 3GB graphics will not provide too much additional computing power for your editing needs.
The processor and memory, coupled with the SSD will be the biggest help on that front.

So if you don't particularly need it for gaming, I would look for similar spec'ed laptops without the dedicated graphics (or even lower spec graphics)

If you're not a gamer then I would say this laptop is way overkill for your needs. I just bought this Dell laptop:

Inspiron 15 5000 series
338-BGRZ15th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-5500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)
619-AHEY1Windows 8.1 64-Bit English
370-AANL18GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBx2)
400-AAZU11TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
490-BCMX1NVIDIA® GeForce® 920M 4GB DDR3
429-AAJV1Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
391-BBZM115.6-inch HD (1366 x 768) Truelife LED-Backlit Display

This cost just under 800.00
I then increased the RAM to 16 gig. And replaced the HDD with a 500GIG SSD and went to windows 10. This laptop is doing a excellent job processing RAW images in Elements 14 with very slight processing lag. With normal JPEGs there is no lag. Total cost was just under 1000.00
But, I showed the specs of the laptop you're looking at to one of my kids that happens to be a hard core gamer and real sharp with computers. And he said that laptop should be "smoking fast" whatever that means... But, agreees, for half the cost you can get an excellent laptop for photo work.
