DxO Optics Pro

Downloaded the trial of DxO Viewpoint 2 and even my wife loves it and want me to get it so that is a no brainer. I did see the DxO Optics Pro so downloaded the trial of it while I was playing. It seems like it does a good job too. Has anyone used it and if so what are your opinions?

I was about to make a post about this myself. I've been playing with it since yesterday.
After I downloaded Viewpoint 2, it appeared in LR as a plugin. After downloading Optics Pro 10 I did not find it in LR as a plugin . I can export from OP10 into LR but not the other way around.

Now on my thoughts on the software itself.

It is a bit slower on my machine then LR or PS are. I really like the "Clearview" function. Much better IMO than "Dehaze" in LR.
What I really really like is the NR on this thing. IMO it is better at preserving detail than "Define" in Nik Tool, which is what I normally use. (I do have to admit that I am not fully knowledgeable in "Dfine" so it might be on my end.

As far as organizing goes, I'll stick with LR. Also, there is no selective brush or radial filter in OP10..I don't think that I will be keeping it as it will not replace LR and it would be an expensive addition to LR< PS and NIK.

There is a way to get to optics pro from Lightroom. It took me some research and looking to find it. I worked on a underexposed high ISO photo this afternoon and got amazing results. But you were right in it being slow. It took 10 minutes for it to save and get back to LR. I still have some time on the trial on bot so i think I will
Play with it a little more and may contact DxO and see if they have an answer to the speed problem.

It did not take nearly as long to export the image back to LR. I used the "prime and auto" mode on this ISO 6400 shot.

Here is a before and after (almost a 100% crop). Did a fine job.

Had a chance to play with DxO Optics Pro again today. I am impressed with what it can do.

Here is the full frame shot.

This was shot with my D7100

f5.6 @ 1/500 sec
ISO 200

And here is the 100% crop from the RAW file with no processing

After testing on a number of photos I broke down and bought the DxO Photo Suite - Elite The Essential version cuts a couple of the things I really like about the software like Prime Denoising and Clearview. The clearview is worth the money on photos that need it.

Just one click without any other adjustments

Looks good.
Does it work as a plug-in, or is it a stand alone software?

Sort of. You go into LR and send it to DxO Optics Pro. And then do what you want to in that plugin and then save it back to LR. The other module (Viewpoint) works a little better with LR and is more like a standard plugin. I would not use Optics Pro on every shot but only on those that need a little more help than normal. Worth its weight in gold on underexposed or hazy shots. There were some that my wife shot that I would have deleted that she had shot into the sun. They were terrible. She liked the shot and asked me to work on them for her I used optics pro on them and got shots that were much better than I though was possible.
