Keyboard Problem..... ? Shortcut keys

I have a small problem with my keyboard when I want to put something in quotation marks eg Ï am doing it now". See what happens? The first mark does not appear but instead I get a diacritic (if that is the correct name). I have google searched but cannot find a cure. Can anyone help? Please?

I THINK it may be that I have somehow set my keyboard to US not English. I can't find where to change it if this is the reason

OK......"hello"..... Hmmmm.....I think I've sussed it ;) I spent ages yesterday trying to find an answer to this with no result and then as soon as I post this and go look again...hey presto :D Isn't it always the way?

It WAS set to US International. Looks like it was set that way when the computer was set up as no other language choices were showing. I had to add English :D

I did not realise that you use English in Australia.
