Grrr! Power supply fail!

To replace an Enermax PSU which blew & took out my motherboard, I bought the best PSU I could find - a Seasonic Platinum 860W. I thought it would last me for 10 years! It was very expensive.

That was January 2013. This morning it failed. Pop! My computer cut out, I was able to get it running again, then pop.. it failed again. I diagnosed motherboard or power supply but had to go out working for the day before I could test it. Meanwhile my wife kindly bought a second hand motherboard of exactly the same model so that I had something spare. Back home tonight, I tried a Corsair unit I had in stock & everything is running. I sent an email to Seasonic & got a reply within minutes asking for info, I sent that back with a scan of the invoice & I've just got the RMA number back. That's about the quickest RMA I've ever seen!

Nice, but I'd have preferred it not to fail in the first place.

I've just put a new power supply in my PC, only had a 500w and it was getting a little warm running 2 hard drives, and all the other bits in the PC.
so now I have a 750w psu, and hope it lasts a longer than the one you had :)

I'm running a spare Corsair 430W power supply in my pc at the moment. It's under powering the pc, but everything seems to be running ok at the moment. I've left the side of the case off to keep things cool.

Hoping to hear from Seasonic soon.

When I last assembled my system I got a 1000W power supply thinking it will last and last. It failed in two months. Took one month for warranty replacement. As this is a dual XEON system, could not use any of the older power supplies.

So every thing fails, that is why most mission critical systems have redundancy - 2, 3 or 9 units with 2-out-of-3 at unit level and again at group level. The best answer to failure is to ensure that both the warranty and warranty replacements are fast, preferably local front end.
