I noticed that Digital Photographer magazine is offering a free download of DxO Optics Pro 8 Elite with issue #154. If you don't have a subscription, the one issue will cost you about $5.

-Digital Photographer Homepage | File Silo

Once you buy the issue, you will click on the unlock button and answer one question to get access to the download. They emailed me an activation code in a few minutes. Unfortunately, this full version does not allow the free upgrade to version 9 that has the better PRIME noise reduction system, but they give you a 25% code for version 9.

If you don't have Lightroom or other RAW processor, this is an inexpensive option. It's not as clunky as CaptureOne, but I still prefer Lightroom.

Here's the thing, as installed it will not support any of my RAW images other than the D7000 (i.e. D7100, D600, D610, D800), and in the "Missing Module" dialogue the only thing it offered to download for me was support for my iPhone 5!!

It would be cool to have this as an optional piece of software, but I can't believe they're giving away something that will not support 2 year old cameras.

There's support for them in the 8.1.5 release, and when I click on the About Optix Pro link it tells me I have version 8.5 build 11 installed, so I have no idea what the hell is going on.

...

Oh, bite me!! My problem is that there's no support for the damn Adobe DNG files I was creating from all my RAW stuff before May of this year. D7100, D600 and D800 files load fine, but not D610 (though they are identical to D600), and certainly not my D750.

So false alarm for anyone who has the cameras mentioned. Nice that I got it, but it's going to be useless to me moving forward for everything but the D7100 and IR. I'll still keep it on here.

It doesn't support

Yeah, it supports my D800 and D7100, but not my D610. I remember using some freeware that tricked LR into thinking that my D610 files were D600 files before they released the update to recognize them, so maybe that would work with DxO but that's a hassle and another step. I'll keep it to compare the RAW rendering to LR.

You have to use a line-command EXIF editor to change the NEF file and who the heck has time for that?! I have my workflow, but you can't beat the price for those looking for something.

Not quite PhotoShop, but better'n most free stuff:

DxO & Digital Photographer | www.dxo.com

Offer good until Jan 31, 2015.

A list of supported cameras is here. Type in your email, complete the captcha, install the program and watch your email for the free license key. And this doesn't appear to be a trial version.

I downloaded v7 a while back, and was bummed it wouldn't accept the D7100 .NEFs, but v8 does! But since support has been discontinued, it won't work with some of the newer cameras, like the D610, D750 and D810... at least for .NEF files. MAYBE is will work with JPEGs. YMMV.

Thanks for saving me the $5. Not worth it!
