You can use a .png file for watermarks though, can't you? They support a transparent background, then the opacity can be adjusted for the actual image.
Sounds right, but I have not done it, so I have questions. The inserted image would need to be transparent, processed by the editor, but the final image processed by viewer would not? Can final image still be JPG? I don't know how those possibilities work?
