how do you do your conversion from raw files to jpeg for posting on nites? Thanks.

I shoot raw and use Lightroom... Process in Lightoom and then do an Export to a preset ..

Jpeg save to my desktop
Long side to 1000
Add my watermark

This can be one file or a batch... then I upload them directly from my desktop to Nikonites!

Pat in NH

(I have created other presets for Zenfolio and Flickr direct, also full size JPEG backup of the pictures I send to Zenfolio)

Though I won't be as helpful, I do want to say that LR feels awkward as duck compared to Photoshop. Same conversion options, but LR has a fairly awkward layout with absolutely everything crammed into the same space. I personally prefer Bridge > Shop.

In general though, I open one file out of the bunch in the convertor dialog, tweak the settings to my liking, and save them as new RAW defaults. That pre-applies that preset to everything else in the folder you're viewing in bridge and makes fine-tuning any pics hence after much quicker.

You can also select several shots at a time and open them all in the convertor (say you're making a panorama) and apply settings of the first one to the rest of them, to make everything as uniform as possible before you photomerge.

@SkyLTD - I think it's all about what you're used to. Just like you can go from tab to tab in ACR you can collapse and expand each section of the LR Develop module, so while it defaults to "all there" you can compact those sections you don't use. But I realize that after learning one way any other way is going to seem foreign, because everything you mention about PS/ACR & Bridge are there for you in Lightroom between the Library and Develop modules. Having toyed with PS and ACR first before getting LR I have to say that I much prefer the LR interface, so to each their own.

As for my workflow, I import RAW files to Lightroom, and perform my basic adjustments to the RAW file there - apply lens profiles, crop, straighten and do basic lighting adjustments. Depending on the photo and what I want/need to do with it, I may do 100% of my work in Lightroom or send it to Photoshop to finish it (this is akin to the step that leaves ACR and moves you to Photoshop in SkyLTD's flow). Generally I'll use Photoshop to manage the invoking of Nik, onOne and any other tools I want to use rather than calling them from Lightroom since each tool will form a new layer instead of a new file. When I'm done I collapse the layers and save it as a PSD file which is added to my Lightroom Library automatically. I'll then go back to Lightroom and sometimes apply a couple more tweaks there as I find some color manipulation is easier using the Camera Raw tools. I do all my JPEG creation using the Export module in Lightroom. Most of the time I will keep both the original RAW file and the PSD, archiving them off my laptop after some time.

As for panoramas and focus stacking, I will do my basic adjustments in Lightroom and then call the appropriate Photoshop Merge process from the LR Library module.

thanks guys, it looks like i am working in the right ballpark, just got to get alot more comfortable before switching from jpeg.

I have a script in PhotoShop that puts a frame with drop shadow, my ©Don Kuykendall, resizes to 1000px on the long side and saves it as a JPEG to a specified folder on my desktop for later use on Favebook and Nikonites. 1 click does it all.

Almost same in Aperture. Open raw file, make needed adjustments, click export which then sends a sized jpeg to a my files in Finder and send to site from there. Had to take a class to learn it but now it goes pretty well.

Currently I am saving JPEG to one card and RAW to the other. I post both to the comp and go through the RAW images and identify the subject (usually travel/landmarks) name them, and these are automatically saved in alphabetical order within the folder and the folders are in alphabetical order. When I have processed the RAW file in Lightroom it is saved as a JPEG which means I now have 3 copies of each image. My question is do I need to save an original JPEG on the memory card as well as the RAW? Also when I post the processed RAW images (saved as JPEG) to Flickr will they still appear "processed" or original? Sorry for my confusion but just purchased LR and trying to get to grips with the best method of filing/posting.

I now made a seperate folder in Windows Explorer just for the shots I'm posting here in Nikonites.
I save these Edited Raw files as jpegs , 1000 px on the long side, with sRGB color space.

Speaking of color space, for the longest time I could not figure out why my images looked way different on my wife's iPad then on my PC.
Come to find out, that I wa saving my jpegs in Pro RGB color space, which the iPad doesn't recognize.
As soon as I switched to saving in sRGB my images look much closer to my PC on the iPad.

High level;

I use LR to import the RAW file and convert to DNG.
Edit the file in LR
Export to JPG
Upload to Flickr usually and share with the site via the BB/URL code.

I still like that setup. I know I've asked about it before, not sure if I asked if that is something that can be done in LR or not?

Thank you so much Don. Now I am happy that I don't need watermark my photos. Now I can use this little script for my photos on Facebook and other boards.

I just tried the script und it works perfect.
