Importing images from multiple dates in Lightroom

I'm on Lightroom 4.4

I have images on my SD card from two different dates. I store my images on my disk in folders named after the date the images were taken. I tried using the 'click the first image then shift+click the last image' Windows-type trick to import only selected images, but apparently that feature isn't available in Lightroom?

Aside from checking each image individually, how do you import only selected images from your SD card to Lightroom at one time?

Thanks.

This won't help with Lightroom, but if you used Nikon Transfer, which is part of Nikon View NX2 that came free with your camera, it would automatically create folders for each date that images were shot and import the images into the appropriate folder automatically.

I select Uncheck All first to clear any selections... then in thumbnail view I just click on the first image, and then shift-click on the last image... this should highlight the images in between... then tick any image in the set's little tick box in the upper left corner... magically, all the tick boxes auto-tick <- I just made that word up... then hit the import button on the right bottom corner...

That reminds me. I manually selected the first set of images and imported them already. I can import the second set using the 'don't import images' option and that will work for now.

Another work around is to move them to another folder on my SD card, but I'd like to think there is a better way in Lightroom. We'll see.

Tried that didn't seem to work :(

Yeah Joe.. Exactly what Fred said..
Click 'Uncheck all'
Then Select all the images you want to import, then tick one of the checkboxes on the top left corner of any image
all the selected images will get ticked, then import

Yep. That is the manual way that works. I'm looking to mass-select a series of images at once. I'm using LR on Vista.

Okay... we need more info then because obviously we're not communicating...

When you point LR at a directory/drive/device, it sees graphic files there and compares them against the catalogue... and flags files it sees that are NOT already in the catalogue as eligible for Importing... You can selectively turn ON/OFF files... en mass before Importing... By changing specifics in the COPY/MOVE toolbar at the top... As the Import progresses... it will perform those actions also...

If you want to sort/copy/move those files into specific folders (dates) by selecting parameters in those components, it will also do that...

If you want, you can physically copy/move files by date into specific folders BEFORE opening/Importing files in LR... and then you can create NEW catalogues for those specific dates, and then Import those foldered files into the new catalogue...

Having said all the above.... NOW what exactly do you want to do ??? :)

We've discussed what you stated above ;)

In summary. I have images on my card from multiple days of shooting. The first time connecting this series of images, I wanted to only import a select series of images at once, from a certain date for example.

LR would not allow me to highlight a series of images without selecting them individually.

You're saying that 'selecting' the first image, and then shift-clicking another image further down does NOT select all the images in between the two?

Okay... then you probably have a Windows problem with keyboard mapping because that function is a basic Windows function, and NOT specifically a LR function... LR accommodates MAC users by replicating that function...

Strange. Works fine in other apps and Flickr.

And it works fine for me and other folks here, and in the tutorial I posted a link to...

Try this... goto LR... go to a date/folder of images... click on the first image in the bottom on the film strip... and then shift-click on the last image in the film strip... Does it select all the images in between? If in Library mode, with multiple images selected, you make a change... i.e., change the exposure... all of the selected images in the film strip will change equally...

When I return home I'll take a closer look. Thanks.

This does work properly for images I've previously imported to LR and are in my filmstrip on the bottom of the screen.

Strange. I'll snap a few more pics later today and try to reproduce the original issue again.

Forgot to update this one.

Chalk it up to a glitch or human error, All is working as intended now. Carry on, nothing to see here....
