I just posted about it a couple of weeks ago. I got one for my all around camera (D300) because I didn't want to spend the money for another Nikon 18-200 VR. So far I think it is a great lens for the money.

Zak,
What is your review compared to the Nikon? Is it similar in quality, feel, and handling? Having not researched this lens, what is the difference in price? I have been reluctant to get third party lenses. I bought my Nikon to use Nikon lenses. I like the quality.

Hey Mark, I have several third party lenses and think they are all great. I have a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 that stays on my D700, also a Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 that works great also. The Sigma 18-200mm OS is about the same size and weight as the Nikon version but I haven't used it enough yet to say how well it shoots compared to the Nikon. What I have shot with it so far has been good but again I do have it on my third camera which is a D300 which I use to teach some workshops and just general use stuff. In many independent tests lenses such as the Tamron, Sigma and Tokina all do well in their upper line stuff and sometimes actually do better as far as picture quality but where they can lack is in drive motor AF speed and image stabilization. This Sigma has the Hyper Sonic Motor and the cost is about half the price of Nikons at $369 http://www.adorama.com/SG18200SNK.html?kbid=64905 I think it is a great buy at this price. The zoom does work the opposite way of Nikon though.

Hey albryant58
I picked up a used version of that lens and it pretty much stays on my D-90. It is a great all around general shooter. Personally I love it and would recomend it but like I said picked mine up used in mint shape for $175.00 could'nt beat the price.

Fotojo, that is a great price. Nice to know Zac that the lenses are comparable. I just might start looking at some of the lens categories that I want lenses in but just can't afford the Nikon, ie the 70-200 2.8. Won't have $2G's any time soon for that one.

I would have a hard time letting the image stabilization go. I really like that. I have over looked some lenses based on that. As I get older my hands are not as steady and that helps a lot. Six year warranty is a nice feature though.
