Nikon Rumors is reporting that the D90 will have the following features:

  • Aluminium or magnesium-alloy body
  • 16MP sensor
  • 1080 HD video
  • Somewhere between 6-8 fps
  • Improved ISO (don’t know what exactly the improvement is – higher ISO, or just better ISO at the same D90 level)
  • 39 AF points
  • $1199 for body only

To be announced mid September!

Thoughts?

I saw on another site that Nikon will announce the new D95 on August 15 in a European wide press event, and the rumor for it having 16mp, 6-8fps, and improved ISO is still holding. If that is the case then it would be reasonable to expect they will announce it here in the US in mid September.

The greater frames per sec would be nice. The higher resolution for video would mean nothing to me. I don't know if I like the 16mp. Without having a larger sensor the probability of greater noise at higher ISO is increased. Not to mention the larger size of files and what would you do with the higher mp's unless you want to crop and blow up the image. Not often used. This will compete with the Canon's but only to the uninformed that participate in the MP race. Not a great leap over the D90 for quality pictures IMO.

This whole thing about fps and mega pixels, video and all the other stuff is all about marketing. They have to compete with Cannon and others to sell cameras. No matter that all this stuff will be used very little or not at all by the average photographer. However there are a lot of buyers out there that want the latest and greatest. Not a great leap but it will sell cameras.

I was unsure about getting my D90 when I did, so close to the new arrival. Now I'm glad I didn't wait. There isn't really a "must have" feature in the upgrade package, though the additional FPS would be nice. I agree with Mr. Bautsch, this all seems to be aimed at those who will buy it just to have the latest and greatest.

Nikon d90 replacement is a Nikon D7000 and shoots at 10mp and 1.1 fps ...
i know il stick to my nikon d90 as soon as my money comes through ..
it isnt a patch on the Nikon D90 in my opinion ..
The release date or the D7000 is september 8th or 15th so not long to wait ..
or check it out on
DigitalRev on youtube..

There will more than likely be a review on there as soon as its released ..

I still dont understand why our dslr's can shoot movies... never used that feature on my D5000, a photographic camera, is meant to shoot photos... Each fruit in their trees... one day the cameras will call, or have internal internet to upload the pics? :p its only my opinion, the 16mp sounds good even if the canon 550d got 18mp.

My planned replacement of my D90 was whatever they replaced the D700 with.

Got tired of waiting for Nikon to release the D700 replacement though, and just ordered one. I liked the features enough to just order one now and get using it.

Granted, by ordering the D700, the replacement will come out next week I'm sure. But, I'm OK with that :)

The D90 is a great body. Some of those changes you mention would make it more of a pro level body instead of a prosumer body. Sounds more like a replacement for the D300s to me.

well if it doesnt come up to the stats of this camera ,
then il go to the dark side of canon .
Nikon listen we want better mp than 12.1mp ...
i dont want to be spending another £1000 on a lense just because you dont upgrade the mp ..
if not then this is my new camera ..
DEADLINE 15th SEPTEMBER ....
lets see if you make it better than the D90 ???
If not then welcome my newest camera ACANOCM205152244.jpg
