Okay, I'll jump in since I've taken a pic from almost the same spot and know hard hard the lighting is there! I think I would use Viveza to lighten up the shadows. Right now with the dome centered, I'm not sure where you want to draw my attention.

I don't think my attempt was any better and if I'm ever there again (doubtful) I'm not sure how I might do something differently.

It depends on what you like If you want more detail in the shadows, then lighten it up. My take is that it is good like it is. The dark shadows do a good job of framing the subject which is the dome. Too much detail in the shadows will be a distraction. I would crop it down to eliminate the three bright lights on the sides. They do nothing but distract attention from the subject. Good shot, exposure, DOF and sharp and I like the saturation.

Eduard, I see what you mean, but I think I want those shadows and contrast on the perimeter. The focus is the dome.

Joe, good suggestion - those lights are distracting, but I think I could just dim them in lightroom instead of completely cutting them, and all the detail out around them.

Thanks for the suggestions guys :)

I thought of the same thing right after I hit the send button. Dim them down so that they have just enough detail to be visible but still not detract from the dome. I like the white balance. Did you do anything to adjust it? Great color! Just to get nit picky. I would also dim down the two vertical yellow lines on the top left and right. Also dim down the lit up panels just to the left and right of the top light. I would also eliminate that orange spot in the middle of the statue bottom right. It's just plain annoying. The dome is the subject so put everything else in the shadows. (Told you it was nit picking :))

no white balance adjustments, just curves - I didn't even see that orange spot, haha.

I remember that when I took this picture I made sure that I was in the absolute center of the room. A marking on the floor helped with this. :) I'm really glad that it came out symmetrical. Some of my shots didn't and required some tricky lens correction in photoshop.
