That's right, Bill. I use the Induro
A-114. It has features of many high end tripods at a fraction of the cost. It's around $60 on Amazon, but I didn't see it at B&H Photo.
- About 60" fully extended.
- Aluminum alloy.
- Bubble level.
- Moisture resistant leg locks.
- Carrying case.
Note that this is for the tripod base
only, which is going to be the case for most setups. Tripod heads are largely a matter of personal choice, but I think you'll find that many recommend a ball head. I use the
Manfrotto 322RC2, which retails for around $120. This is not your daddy's ball head! It's mostly metal, very solid, and will support up to
11 lbs...that's a lot of beef!
Throw in shipping and tax, and you're going to be playing in the $200 neighborhood, which is a bit more than you wanted to spend. I can't say enough about that ball head, it's my favorite piece of gear and was worth every single penny. No messing around with knobs and levers, just squeeze the handle with one hand and you can move your camera anywhere you want. It's sturdy enough that I simply don't worry about it out in the field.
