Stupid Windscreen....

So over the summer I was at a car show taking pictures primarily for myself, but also for to the car club owner. I took several (what I thought) were good shots. I tried to different spin on the pictures than a normal car show shoot. Well any way, I had this one picture that I liked just because it was different than the rest and I really tried to capture a certain image. I was happy with it.......... until I took a photography course and asked the instructor to take a look at some work. He told me he really liked the shot except for the dirty windscreen. I never noticed the stupid windscreen. DSC_2512_edited-3.jpgDSC_2512_edited-4.jpg Well anyway here is the original and the fixed. Please let me know what you think. And if there is anything more I should have fixed... tell me :-/ and I'll fix it. Cheers.

I love the composition! It does look better but I can still see some spots within the highlights. I have found it easier to use frequency separation with the stamp, low opacity brush, and smudge tools for fixing spots minimal affect to detail. I'm a perfectionist though and if I'm in a mood I could spend hours on one photo. The photo looks great aside from 2-3 spots that I noticed (because I was looking for them).

Often at car shows the owner gets extra points for a little road rash showing the car is driven. I wouldn't have noticed the spots either. Nice detail shot in any case.

When you get through waxing that car, I have two in my driveway that need a good wax. Thanks!

It's just me, but I'm bothered by a teaching directive that insists in artificial perfection, that you need to spend time doctoring an already excellent image into something that's immaculate. If an image is to be used professionally in advertising, a flawless image is expected, but aspiring to such a ridiculously high standard for most images diminishes the spontaneous enjoyment of our wonderful hobby.

I would agree with you. It does spoil the enjoyment a bit, but I guess I miss represented the instructors lesson about the image. His words were that I should have noticed the windscreen prior to taking the image and I should have asked the owner to clean the glass.
Had I been getting paid for the shots I was taking, I would have asked everyone to clean their cars and posed them how I wished.
