The obligatory transparent hood shot

I've been wanting to do this for a while. Finally set it up today.

1. Wash / Polish
2. Tripod, D7100, 18-105mm
3. Pose vehicle
4. Shot 1 with hood down
5. Shot 2 with hood up

I have LR 5 and PS 7.0 (vintage, I know)

After watching a few youtube videos I figure it out.
The shadow over the motor was due to the hood and the angle of the sun. Didn't care much as I was more after the process then a cool end result.

I know this is a decades old thing to do, but it's new to me :)

Thoughts?

I like the following look, I'll play with it again next time. Just a matter of adjusting the eraser opacity.

Just thinking, but I believe you're better using a layer mask to remove the opacity of the the hooded version rather than an eraser (image of hood closed on top, open on the bottom). Paint black on a white mask to effectively erase the hood. This way you can always paint the white back as well (eraser is a PITA). Use a mild opacity at first and a soft edged brush. Shouldn't be too difficult. If I could have found sample images I would have done a tutorial vid 1-2-3. Can be done with any version of PS or PSE.

OK, so I had some time over lunch, but not a car available. Hmmmm, what else can I use?...

Bingo!!

In about 5 minutes I made this...

... from these...

Here's how...

Note, I did this in Photoshop CC 2014, but it can be done in any version of Photoshop that I've ever seen, as well as every version of Photoshop Elements since Version 8 (the first I had) and likely before. Things I didn't tell you?

I think that's it, but if you have questions, ask!!

(new video inserted - this should be entirely correct and complete)

FYI, folks, I've redone the video tutorial above and will have it swapped out as soon as it's done uploading. I hate having something out there with mistakes, or half finished. I'm expecting it'll be there by 2PM EDT.

Really simple explanation - but good.

I didn't know about the keyboard shortcut to soften brush edges thats really useful, saves a lot of time going back to the brush tool to change them.
Thanks
