The Fist - Monument to Joe Louis

Had a great day of shooting in Downtown Detroit yesterday! Here is one shot, more to come. Great progress on the M1 Rail system as well.

"Monument to Joe Louis" is an 8,000-pound, 24-foot-long sculpture which honors boxer Joe Louis. Still controversial, this sits at the foot of Woodward Avenue on Jefferson Avenue in Downtown Detroit.

It's a 4 ton bronze fist right on the bank of the Detroit River facing Windsor, Ontario Canada for one.

Also, to many, a fist is a sign of violence. It was erected in a time when Detroit was deep in a downward spiral.

To others, it's just a tribute to one of the greatest boxers of all time - Joe Louis :)

That's a shame. We have to find hidden meaning in everything! It can't just be what it is, I'm glad I won't be around 50 years from now. Our society is becoming so pathetic.
